We like to think of our homes as being a safe place for us, our families, and our precious belongings. But our peaceful oasis can sometimes also attract unwanted attention.
John Dunham, Jr., owner of Western Security had this to say, “The biggest reason a homeowner should consider installing a home security system is that it offers protection to family members from intruders. In some cases, burglars may still target a home either knowingly or unknowingly when members of the family are inside. Having a security system in place often provides family members with enough warning to get to a safe location in or outside the home while the alarm system dispatches local authorities.” Dunham explained that this gives you “peace of mind, that’s probably the best thing you can have.” Besides the obvious advantages, having a monitored home security system could also provide you with a surprising benefit, a saving of up to 20% on your homeowner’s policy, depending on what company your policy is through.
Security systems don’t just protect against break-ins, some now come with features such as panic and emergency buttons. “They come with every keypad… medical, fire, police, emergency. We do offer wireless medical pendants that elderly people can wear around their necks, wear them in the shower. They can press them if they fall.” He said that this allows them to send out help “immediately and then we’ll call their kids, a neighbor, or a family member to let them know that we’ve dispatched the ambulance.” This can help keep elderly family members independent and save you the hassle of dealing with a separate company for similar services.
Home security systems have come a long way in recent years, now with options to ensure that your home is safe with the click of a button or the opening of an app. Cameras can be wired so that the lines are virtually impossible to cut or there are “wireless cameras that are capable of being hooked to your phone line and the alarm system itself that you can see remotely or get clips of people who access your home.” He went on to say that they offer “a Skybell camera right now which is through Alarm.com to where it activates based on motion or anyone ringing your doorbell, which seems to be a very popular item.” This product “gives you video two-way communication to whoever may be at your front door.” Meaning that whether you’re at the store, out of town, or just in the backyard, you can now see who is on your doorstep. Dunham said that most “break-ins happen through the front door, so, that’s definitely an added measure from someone kicking down the front door and accessing the home.” Something like the Skybell lets you “be able to see them before they do anything and/or talk to them right from your smartphone. But obviously having a home monitored security system is your best preventative measure from being robbed.”
Now you can rest assured that your palace is safe, no matter how far away you happen to be.
