Love might be on the back burner for now, but this year’s Sizzlin’ Singles are All Fired Up for sharing their time with local charitable organizations. They can manage the flames of life on their own just fine all while heating up in their careers and spicing up their lives with community involvement. We’re not just blowing smoke, you’ll see that all our singles are “well done”.

Beef, Chicken or Veggies? Chicken, as long as it is white meat with no bones! Something about bones gives me the creeps, plus without the bones it is much easier to eat the chicken.
Charcoal or Gas? I do not care which method you use to cook the food as long as you can cook it fast and get it on a plate in front of me right away. I’m definitely the person hovering near the grill constantly asking when the food is ready to eat.
Beer or Wine? Sweet, sugary wine is my favorite! Who needs dessert when you have a great Moscato at hand?
Pool, Patio or Tailgate? This is a tough one! I love all the options! Tailgating is so much fun! Especially if it is right before a USC game, then it is definitely the best kind of tailgate. There is just so much atmosphere, tradition and a really exciting game to look forward to afterward. Fight on!
To be the host or be hosted? I have several friends who are definitely the hostess with the mostess, so I prefer to attend their BBQ’s and then not have to deal with the clean-up later but instead get to sample and marvel at their great food.
Your go-to side dish to bring? This one is tricky! I always try to bring something different to every BBQ because I want to try out new recipes. But it is always some type of appetizer or side because people always need something to snack on before the food is ready!
Do you follow a family recipe or MacGyver it? I always follow a recipe! I want it to be perfect and taste amazing. Unfortunately, every time I throw something together on my own people get sick! Just ask my poor family about the cake catastrophe of ’07.
What’s the secret to your secret sauce? I would tell you but then I would have to kill you. ☺
Rate your grill skills (10 being a “grill master”)? I would rate myself a 7! I have never burned anything on the grill so I give myself props there but I do not have the expert skills to get those criss-cross lines on your meat and veggies to make them look cool.
3 words to describe your dance moves: Silly, Gangly, All Elbows.
Craziest place you’ve ever been kissed? The craziest place I was kissed was on a ski lift at the Calgary Olympic Park by my 3rd grade boyfriend while all our friends watched and hooted from the chairs behind us.
Instagram or Snapchat? Snapchat because they are moments in time that disappear and you never have to remember them especially if they are embarrassing!
Musical instrument you played as a kid? I played piano, clarinet and guitar as a kid.
Name something from your bucket list: My bucket list is to visit as many countries as I am able to in the world, currently I am well on my way with 57 countries under my belt. This year I will be looking to add three more to that number!
Favorite local charity or non-profit event? I enjoy working with CASA on many of their fundraising events! I volunteer with Wine, Women and Shoes and the Kentucky Derby event. The work they are doing in the community is very special to me.
One thing you couldn’t live without? I could not live without my passport! I travel too much and would be devastated to be grounded and miss out on all the adventures.
TV show you are obsessed with? I am currently obsessed with The Good Wife, the lead character reminds me of my mom! I just started watching it a few months ago and cannot believe what I was missing!
Favorite local place for a first date? Camille’s is by far my favorite, low-key place that always has good food and a relaxing atmosphere.
On talk like a pirate day – what’s you’re favorite thing to say (in pirate of course)? Walk the plank! Argghhh!!
Gustavo Luna, 29
Beef, Chicken or Veggies? My favorite is tri-tip…but I’m trying to eat healthy so chicken with a side of veggies, for now.
Charcoal or Gas? Charcoal, my favorite part is getting the fire started.
Beer or Wine? I’m not much of a drinker but when I do it’s craft beer.
Pool, Patio or Tailgate? A patio by the pool.
To be the host or be hosted? Be hosted, because you’re not making a mess at my place!
Your go-to side dish to bring? I love me some avocado, so, guacamole and chips!
Do you follow a family recipe or MacGyver it? Internet recipe.
What’s the secret to your secret sauce? Knowing where to purchase it!
Rate your grill skills (10 being a “grill master”)? A solid 9 because I like to think I’m good at everything!
3 words to describe your dance moves: Wow! What! and Hello!
Craziest place you’ve ever been kissed? I’m a gentleman, I don’t kiss and tell.
Instagram or Snapchat? Snapchat is more fun. Pictures and videos are temporary so you never have to worry about deleting stuff.
Musical instrument you played as a kid? Does the sound of a ball hitting something count as music? Because if does, then my favorite instrument was a ball!
You’re looking to embark upon a thrilling adventure in Kern County. Where do you go/what do you do? The airport! Let’s go for hot air balloon ride, a helicopter flight, or let’s do air maneuvers in an airplanel
Name something from your bucket list: Skydiving.
What or who inspires you to be a better person? Seeing acts of evil, injustices, poverty, and people in need has always fueled my desire to become the best person I can be to better help others.
Favorite local charity or non-profit event? The Mercy Learning Center located on California Ave. They provide many services to the community and host the “Homework Club”, an afterschool program for students in the neighborhood. Over 30 students attend the center every day! It’s one of many great programs funded by Dignity Health! You can always donate or volunteer to help. Check them out!
One thing you couldn’t live without? The Internet. I use it daily to work, socialize, obtain guacamole recipes and much more!
TV show you are obsessed with? Fun fact about me, I haven’t owned a TV for the past 8 years. Back then I was hooked on Breaking Bad. Now I watch TV on a laptop or projector.
Favorite local place for a first date? Riverwalk at sunset.
On talk like a pirate day – what’s you’re favorite thing to say (in pirate of course)? Arrrrr-nt you a pretty piece of gold!
