The Mark has been a prime downtown location for an elegant time out from the moment it opened its doors. True gourmet creations and signature cocktails served within a perfectly set atmosphere are all to be had with any given visit. After all, this is a place where they are known to set the bar higher in all that they do.
“The atmosphere and the service really draw people here,” confirmed Robert McDonald, front of house manager and event coordinator. “We have specialty cocktails, and our chef’s specials are actually designed for the chef to have fun and be creative with the dish. They truly put their hearts into it.” To keep things even more interesting, the menu is always changing, as well.
But back to the atmosphere! Perfect use of space is another detail that sets The Mark apart. The whimsical string lights that decorate the outside, where you can dine on the patio to really take in the full downtown experience, set the mood perfectly. For those looking to book a special occasion, The Park (that large, covered area that rests behind the tall iron gates) is the perfect spot for the gathering. Unfortunately, that area is reserved just for those milestone events, but the patio dining is a regular treat open to the public.
There are some details that are even more fascinating when you take a closer look beyond the rich colored walls, leather tufted seats, exposed brick, and beautiful dark woods. That strange mannequin in the corner of the bar, hanging from a rope? “That is a pirate from the original Pirates of the Caribbean ride that the owners purchased at a Disney auction,” McDonald revealed. And that woolly mammoth frozen in time over the doorway in the restaurant? “That came from Michael Jackson’s Neverland estate.”
The truth of the matter is the The Mark is always evolving, always improving, and always rising to exceed the expectations of their happy followers. Where else in town can you catch the Jazz Bar live every Friday and Saturday or watch the Kelly Brothers Dueling Pianos over dinner? Nowhere!
In the spirit of bringing Bakersfield patrons a fantastic experience, all around, their cocktails are a true delight. For this feature, McDonald shared a fun, light, and very summery drink that they named The Westchester. “It’s named for the neighborhood, and much like the community that lives there, it is fun, refreshing, and perfect for the summertime.”
- 1 1/2 oz. Vodka
- 1 1/2 oz. Peach Schnapps
- Ginger Beer
- Lime Wedges
Fill a rocks glass with ice. Pour in vodka, schnapps, and then top with ginger beer. Stir with a straw and garnish the rim of the glass with lime wedges. Optional: squeeze the juice of a lime wedge into the drink and stir for a fun twist.
We have to agree. The drink is a delightful one, with a predominate peach and ginger flavor and a slight bite from the vodka. Squeeze some lime juice into it and it changes the drink completely, smoothing all the flavors out perfectly. Kick this summer off right and indulge in a few of these fantastic drinks with friends! CHEERS!
