Did you feel that? That was the feeling of downtown Bakersfield getting decidedly more awesome.
The reason: CraSh Lounge (which just opened last year). A lounge in the truest sense, you won’t find your typical offerings here. “I have one menu with four pages of drinks and another with just one page of food,” laughed owner, Shawna Haddad Byers. That would be because the focus is on quality drinks, a relaxing atmosphere, and a memorable experience.
When you walk into CraSh, you are greeted with low lighting, brick walls, a beautiful copper ceiling, leather couches, dark wood tables, and an incredible display of bottles decorating the bar and its walls. There are a few things you should understand about this place, firstly that it is neither a bar nor a restaurant. That isn’t to say that the bare bones menu isn’t packed full of inventive and delicious options (where else in town are you going to get a Mephistopheles Melt?), but just know that the drinks are what matters most. “We feature fifty bourbons, whiskeys, twenty single malt scotches, and specialize in craft cocktails with fresh ingredients,” Haddad Byers continued. (In other words, don’t be surprised if the leaves on that basil plant you thought was decorative ends up on top of a freshly prepared dish!)
As if proof of the pride they take in their work, you just may get a history lesson in whatever you are drinking. With the drink that they prepared for us, we were told about the rum’s origins in Bermuda, and how it all tied in with the British Royal Navy! In fact if you encounter Nick, Kevin, or Christian, be prepared to get impeccable service with a lot of wisdom concerning their creations. While you’re at it, you can order this delightful cocktail, or make it yourself! The rum has a nice bite that is mellowed out with the ginger beer, and the hint of lime and bitters rounds it out nicely. This is the sort of drink that can both refresh you in the summer months and warm you up in the winter. Any time is a great time to enjoy it!.
