Nothing says springtime like fresh, local honey, and thanks to Tinney Family Bees and our plentiful Farmers’ Markets, we have an abundance of that golden goodness to go around.
Co-owner Charlene Tinney relayed that had there not been one small mistake that happened to her family years back, they might not be around to delight “localvores” with their sweet honey. “We parked a tent trailer in front of our property and a swarm of bees flew in and made a comb and honey,” she said. Unfortunately, they were unable to move the comb without killing the hive. Out of regret, her husband, Bill, started researching bees and they all found them to be fascinating. “We started with two hives and it has grown into over one hundred and fifty hives,” Charlene said.
The Tinneys have seen their products do wonders for their customers, as they have praised the positive influence the honey has had on their allergies. Charlene also makes all natural body butters and sugar scrubs from their bee products that can help soothe ailments like eczema or small cuts. “I love the personal contact I get with my customers,” she smiled. “I love that they come back and tell me how much they enjoy our honey or how well my skin care products make their skin feel.”
This isn’t all the Tinneys do, though. They also make some delicious snacks that you can purchase with their other items at the local Farmers’ Markets at Brimhall and Calloway and at Haggin Oaks. They were kind enough to share a delectable pick-me-up that is sure to please even the most discerning snacker among us! And there’s no baking required for these morsels, so you can keep cool while you enjoy!
